Acronis Taps Virtualisation Expertise to Bring Instant Restore to Backup Solutions

New Release of Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 Cuts Recovery Time to Seconds with Standby Virtual Machines

Sydney, Aust., December 2, 2009 — Acronis (www.acronis.com.au) has leveraged its expertise in virtualized environments to boost user productivity with a new enhancement to Acronis^® Backup & Recovery^™ 10 that cuts disaster recovery time from minutes to seconds. The new software also boosts integration with virtualization technologies to speed restore and automate backup tasks.

The new Acronis Instant Restore slashes recovery time by maintaining a standby virtual machine (VM) that can be launched instantly if a physical or virtual machine fails. Accessing the standby VM allows users to continue operating without significant interruption while the production machine is recovered or replaced. The innovation is available for VMware ESX/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V environments.

This update to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 sets the recovery time standard,” said Dmitri Joukovski, Vice President of Product Management. “Acronis continues to develop and enhance tools that keep organizations up and running at all times, across physical and virtual environments.”

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 now also delivers faster and easier management of backup tasks through tighter integration with VMware vCenter™ Server. IT personnel can now manage VMware machines without changing interfaces. For example, from the Acronis Management Server (AMS), personnel can display a list of VMs from the vCenter, view a list of machines from VMware Virtual Center or automatically register VMs created using Acronis.

In addition, the enhancements to Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 feature powerful, centralized reporting that allows for deeper strategic analysis of backup practices. Armed with comprehensive XML-based reporting capabilities and a suite of predefined reports included in the Acronis solution, IT managers can easily analyze current system states, identify trends or quickly create reports for senior executives.

Acronis’ new grouping functions allow easier management of backup processes by synchronizing machines in the AMS database, using a customizable list. Dynamic grouping allows the administrator to add or delete machines on the fly by simply changing the text file.

Acronis Backup & Recovery 10, released in July 2009, expands Acronis’ award-winning, patented disk imaging and bare-metal restore technologies to meet the needs of both small and large organizations through increased scalability, enhanced manageability, data deduplication, and support for virtual environments.
