DaniWeb Review: Acronis Online Backup

Overall this a fine backup choice. It provides a generous amount of space for a fair price. They could do a better job of defining how to get started, and the web site recovery could be better integrated with the desktop software, but after you get going, it's a very straight-forward process.

Review: Acronis Online Backup

I will be honest up front and say I have been a big fan of Acronis for years. True Image Home has saved my data more times than I can remember, and I never have a problem recommending them. Once the files are backed up to the secure online storage facility, the files can be recovered or viewed by you, and only you, from any Internet connected computer.

Review: Acronis True Image Home 2010

I’m willing to bet that in any review of an Acronis True Image product, the term ‘saved my bacon’ or saved my a**’ will come up. This review is no different, for it is true. I have used Acronis True Image for many, many years on almost all versions of Windows with great satisfaction. One of the true great feelings in the computing world is knowing your data is safe and you can restore it (or Windows) in a few minutes and be up and running. It’s hard to put a price on satisfaction like that!

Customer Stories

Chester:

I made the switch to Acronis Online Backup from Carbonite for two reasons. First was to be able to back up both my desktop and laptop machines to a common account, without having to maintain (and pay for) two accounts. Second was the seamless integration with Acronis True Image Home 2010. The interface was simple and fit right into the software I was already using for my local backups.

Vic from Chicago:

I just wanted to write and say "Thank You" for your new Acronis Online Backup service. I configured it to backup my PC daily in about 90 seconds. It runs in the background and I don't think about it.

Last month, my hard drive crashed with years of digital photos of my kids, videos, email, and financial data. It cost me $300 and hours of time to get the hard drive rebuilt. When it happened, I had a new hard drive sitting on my desk - I was just avoiding installing it. We back up our pictures every 6 months IF we think about it. I have a friend at work whose house burned to the ground - I think about that when we put the DVD of pictures right next to the computer. The service is like an online safety deposit box, as your tag line says.

When I travel, I do like being able to access files from home, too

Thanks again

Webadmin:

The desktop application is as easy to use as any other I've tested on Windows. Sign in to your account, select the files you want to upload, and fire up the backup job. You can back up multiple computers into the same storage space

PC Magazine review:

Acronis and Symantec both feature online backup, but Acronis one-ups Symantec by offering 5GB of storage instead of 2GB. Both offer a premium edition for $20 more that boosts the total capacities to 25GB for Norton, and a whopping 250GB for Acronis (which is more online storage than most will ever need).

Online backup configuration is set up in almost the exact same way as local file backup: By choosing file types and locations of important files. Depending on the size of the initial upload, the process can take quite a while, but after that only changes files get backed up and uploaded. You can back up multiple computers, and easily access files from Web-connected computer. If you're concerned about security, don't fret. Nobody can get into your account without your login credentials and encryption key, not even Acronis. The downside is that if you lose or forget those essentials there's no way to access the data, so you'll have to delete everything and start again.

DaniWeb Review:

Overall this a fine backup choice. It provides a generous amount of space for a fair price.

Online Backups Review:

  • Integrates nicely with other Acronis products
  • Use one account on multiple computers
  • Restores are prepared quickly and begin almost instantly

From the web, if you select multiple files, they are zipped up and downloaded rather quickly. No waiting around for the server to find and package up the files for you.

If you choose to restore via the Windows application, you check the files you want to restore and then choose the download location. Within a few seconds, the download starts and shortly thereafter, you have your restored files.
