About Acronis Backup & Recovery 10
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10 (ABR10) simplifies and automates backup and restore processes across physical and virtual environments, while having the ability to manage geographically distributed PCs, workstations, and servers and scale from one to thousands of machines. With ABR10 the operating system, system state, applications and all data can be recovered in minutes, and now instantly. This can be contrasted with the traditional approach, which requires the full re-install of the OS, all applications, service packs, and installation of the backup client, finally followed by the recovery of data.
Update 1 major features
Virtualization enhancements
Update 1 makes it easier to deploy and protect virtual machines. It includes integration with VMware’s® vCenterTM Server so you can manage VMware machines without changing your user interface. For instance, you can configure, deploy, license and register a virtual appliance on an ESX/ESXi host without leaving the Acronis Management Server interface. You may also use AMS to view a list of machines from VMware vCenter on the AMS. Alternatively, you can review Acronis’ VM backup configuration/status information from within the vCenter user interface.
Is your organization contemplating a move into cloud computing? Acronis now supports vSphere™, VMware’s newly cloud operating system. And, for Citrix VM users, Acronis is now Citrix Ready.
Acronis Instant Restore
Acronis Backup & Recovery 10’s previous ability to recover a physical or virtual machine in within five minutes to an hour (depending on how much data was involved) already put Acronis well ahead of solutions averaging four hours for recoveries. But when even five minutes is too long, Acronis Instant Restore is the fastest way to achieve your RTO goal.
Acronis Instant Restore takes the latest backup of a physical or virtual server and converts it into a standby VMware ESX/ESXi or Microsoft Hyper-V virtual machine (VM). If the protected machine fails, the standby VM can be launched instantly, allowing users to continue operating without significant interruption while the production machine is repaired.
Platforms supported: VMware ESX/ESXi*, Microsoft Hyper-V.
Centralized, customized reporting
Update 1 introduces a more powerful, centralized reporting function that simplifies the way larger organizations protect large numbers of machines. Now, businesses can easily analyze current system states, spot trends and create reports suitable for presentation to IT and business management. A consolidated, comprehensive reporting infrastructure can save reports in XML format viewable on a Web browser. A separate reports database contains predefined reports that can quickly be customized through filtering and sorting options to match your organization’s needs. Reports cover the following:
- Machines
- Backup Policies
- Backup Plans
- Tasks
- Archives and Backups
- Task activities
- Vaults
Grouping
For medium-size and enterprise-class organizations, Acronis’s new grouping functions simplifies the job of synchronizing the protection of large groups of machines in the Acronis Management Server (AMS) database, working from a customizable list of machines. Dynamic grouping allows you to make adjustments on the fly in fast-changing environments and to carry out backups on many machines using a single command.
Export/import of backups between storage nodes
Acronis’ ability to export and import backups (also known as slices) between one Acronis Storage Node (ASN) and another enables organizations to survive a site-wide disaster in one location and continue operations offsite from another. An offsite ASN can be scripted to complete the entire disaster recovery process, and it allows administrators to select multiple backups from one archive or entire archive. And, it handles both managed and unmanaged vaults for maximum flexibility when you most need it.
